WHERE IT BEGAN

Company History

Founder - Ken Abbott

Founding Director Ken Abbott started Mayday in September of 1992 out of a small office in Osborne Park. By the end of 1993, Ken had acquired Executive Plant Hire, Dalco Earthmoving, and Kwinana Plant Hire. The business initially supplied wet hire machinery to local companies and more predominantly local shires, pairing highly skilled owner/operators with clients around the state. Before the days of mobile phones, Ken had 75 two-way radios sitting on his desk for direct contact with every operator working that day.

By 1997 Ken had moved the business to a bigger premise and had bought his first piece of machinery, a CAT 653 roller for a designated client. Mayday became one of the major suppliers to all Mainroads works around WA during the years that followed.

Due to the company growing exponentially, Ken moved again in 2006 to Wangara, where his son and eventual partner would join the business. In recent times all companies have been merged into its current entity, Mayday Rental. Since then, Mayday has grown into a reputable plant hire service, known for its close to 300 strong fleet. Ken’s hard work has laid the bedrock that allows Mayday to venture into exciting new opportunities while maintaining the strong foundations he had built.
